Housing Crisis and using empty buildings to tackle it.

Housing Crisis and using empty buildings to tackle it.

The rising house prices have been affecting all of us and Housing Justice Cymru, a charity in Wales, is aiming to tackle homelessness and help those struggling to find a place near work by using old or empty buildings and renovating them so that they may act as apartments or accommodation.

In Wales it seems that up to 1 in 12 homes is empty. In some cases, over 200 people compete to rent a property. In Gwynedd, a region in Wales, around 20% of homes are empty and unused.

In response the councils have raised tax on second homes, and also bought homes to rent out. The Welsh government also issued a scheme where they grant up to £25,000 if second homes are renovated and made available to rent.
